Yes, my King

I got inspired to write this song by a talk by Sheikh Burhanuddin Herrmann. Interestingly the Sufi’s like to talk about “The King” and also “The Friend”… I would say they are two different aspects of the big G.

Yes, my King – I heard your order and I will turn, when I’m told
Yes, my King – I’ve seen your scepter and I won’t moan, when I walk
Oh, my King – I know my place is in the servants quarters behind your throne room
But, my King – What if I can’t hear your voice, below all the noise and I can’t see your face in the rush of the marketplace?

Yes, my King – You’ve given me the power to choose and to act on my own
So, my King – When should I consult with you, and when should I act for you and raise my voice?
Oh, my King – I know you don’t lead by force, your law lives in all of us, inside our hearts longing
But, my King – What if we can’t hear your voice, below all the noise, and we can’t see your face in the rush of the marketplace?

Yes, my King – I will be quiet now, so I can hear your gentle voice
And, my King – I’ll close my eyes to look inside your castle walls
Oh, my King – I know my place is here and now, beside your throne
And, my King – There’s no such thing as noise, when I’ll I hear’s your voice and I see your face in every face in the marketplace.

Yes… Yes… Yes…
